  • Lead development of a new innovative SaaS BI product. This new product is winning almost all head to head product shootouts with current industry leaders (grow from 10 million dollar company to over 2 billion dollar valuation). Reviewed consistently as the best user experience on both mobile and web platforms.
  • Champion product innovations that have increased revenues by over 100% per year for 4 years.

  • General Manager position leading development, operations, and quality assurance teams. These teams include 120+ employees, 1500+ remote contractors (China, Bangladesh, and Africa) and a $14 million dollar budget
  • Upgraded employee productivity by recruiting, training and hiring key leaders.
  • Lead negotiator for strategic relationships at Ancestry
  • Conceived and developed many new patent-pending technologies to reach over 300% productivity increases. Grew imaging production from 1 million images a month to over 8 million images a month while keeping expenses flat
  • Defined, developed and delivered products in very aggressive time frames by using AGILE development methodology in C# and ASP on the .NET platform
Vice President of Product Management at MyFamily/Ancestry 1999-2005
  • Lead teams responsible for new product development, processes, usability research, product definition, product pricing and packaging, web design and customer research
  • Increased revenue from a single product making $27 million a year to over $150 million by developing many new and innovative products. This growth was accomplished despite the “internet crash” where advertising revenues dropped to a fraction of previous levels
  • Grew development teams from 30 to over 200 employees while moving from an ASP architecture to a dramatically faster and more robust architecture using C# and .NET platform
  • Helped build highly scalable systems that handle hundreds of searches per second, over 13 million visitors a month, millions of digital images viewed every day. Developed proprietary systems to achieve millisecond search times on billions of records and a scalable database system that saved millions in hardware and software costs
  • Focus on customer-driven and business-needs development. Performed extensive analysis of customers from aggregate web analytics to weekly individual conversations. Prioritized projects by business return on investment

Product Management/Database Development at TenFold 1993-1998
  • Following a very rigorous requirements process able to deliver large-scale, client-server, mission-critical applications in a fraction of the time it took competitors. Worked with fortune 500 customers to understand requirements, write specifications and then build world-class solutions in hospital administration, banking, global investment management and executive recruiting. Extensive work with large databases (Oracle, Sybase, DB2 and SQL)
Director Development at Novell 1993-1998
  • Director of WordPerfect Office which included word processing (WordPerfect), spreadsheet (Quattro Pro), presentations, group calendaring and email. Lead team of over 300 professionals. Lead cross functional teams that included product management, development, usability, user-interface design, marketing, quality assurance, editorial and partner relations. Developed and released world-class software packages that grew to world-wide sales of over $500 million
  • Helped move development of QuattroPro from a Borland team in San Jose to a new team based in Provo, Utah. Managed team of over 20 US based developers and 40+ developers in India
  • Extensive work and training with usability labs, customer research and competitive SWOT analysis. Inventor for two patents, auto-formula corrections and floating cell in the QuattroPro program
Developer/Manager/Director Development at WordPerfect 1993-1998
  • One of seven developers to build WordPerfect for the Macintosh computer. Key challenges included adding WYSIWYG display to WordPerfect which was based on mono-spaced and fixed-height fonts for PC’s. Responsible for defining customer needs and writing significant portions of WordPerfect software including display, file format, printing and graphics
  • One of the innovations included being first to build and release integrated graphic tools in a Word Processor for the Macintosh
  • Promoted to team lead, manager and then director of development. Responsible for a team of 40 engineers that built the core “engine” of WordPerfect. This code base was then used on Windows, OS/2, UNIX, VMS, and NEXT OS
Systems Programmer at WICAT (World Institute of Computer Aided Teaching) 1983-1986
  • Helped write a proprietary operating system. The OS was a hybrid of UNIX and VMS. It had much of the process control and API’s of UNIX but everything was dynamic from hardware drivers to system configuration. Developed deep understanding of systems and architecture. The system ran educational curriculum for K-12

  • Lead programmer for a small business Sportsites.com that I created with 2 other people. The site runs city athletic programs on the web. I developed using ASP .NET and C# on SQL Server
  • Chief Operating Officer (COO) of a small ballroom dance business in 2005. Responsible for day to day business, negotiations, contracts, accounting, taxes and payroll
  • Money management including real-estate, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds (for myself and several others)
  • Sports including golf, volleyball, tennis and racquetball
